Description:
Csárdás Dance Company is a professional dance company presenting
traditional and contemporary works stemming from Hungarian heritage.
Csárdás strives to promote and further ethnic dance as an art
form. Csárdás Dance Company embodies the infectious exuberance of
ethnic dance celebrated in villages such as colorful children's dances, men's
intricate boot-slapping sequences and skillful women's bottle dances. The
richness of the Hungarian culture is revealed through performances featuring a
broad range of dance dialects and styles with pure joy, high spirits and
excitement!
Informances are engaging and up-close performances.
Csárdás showcases excerpts of dance from several different ethnic
regions with 4-6 performers in authentic colorful costumes with traditional
music. In addition, Csárdás educates the audience about the
Hungarian people and their landscapes through an informative study guide
(optional) and slide presentation. These performances also include audience
interaction and participation and may be tailored to specific
audiences.
Duration: Program ranges from 45 - 50 minutes (with
taped music)
Location: Gymnasium works best, although classroom is
fine.
Facility/Equipment Needs: 25' x 25' performance area,
changing area in close proximity to performance area and water.
Csárdás brings a slide projector if needed. Sound equipment should be provided
by the facility.
Number of Participants: Minimum 30
students; Maximum of 1,000 students.
Curriculum Goals: Every
effort is made to connect our program with State and National curriculum goals
and standards.
Teaching Materials/Support: The Csárdás
Study Guide. (One copy provided upon request, copies can be
made)
Assessment/Evaluation: Discussion and question/answer
sessions are part of the program.
Admission/Fee: $250.00 Northeast Ohio, $500.00 elsewhere in Ohio not including travel expenses; call for performances outside Ohio.
Grant Resources: The Ohio Arts Council offers
fee support and Artist in Residence programs.
Main Stage Performances
Demonstrating a repertoire that features a
wide range of dialects and styles, Csárdás entertains and delights audiences
with a polished full stage production by beautifully costumed artists. Mainstage
performances are available from 60 to 120 minutes in length and make for an
experience rich in artistic virtuosity.
Full Company (2 hour): $6000 in OH; add travel for outside Ohio.
Chamber Ensemble (1
hour): $3000 in OH; add travel for outside Ohio.
Csárdás Youth Ensemble (1 hour): $350.00 (northeast Ohio); add travel for
outside this area.

Community Master Classes/Children's Dances ... $250
These introductory classes cover Hungarian dance idioms from
several different regions of Hungary and Transylvania, and can be
geared to any age group. (1 hour in length)
"Legends of the Danube", a folk fashion show ... $1,000
Csárdás showcases gorgeous traditional costumes
and features repertoire with narration in this polished and informative
production. (1 hour in length)
Residencies......Negotiable
The opportunity to experience the diversity
and beauty of Hungarian ethnic dance is available in a five-day residency
program. Each residency concludes with a performance by students reflecting the
week's work.
