Csardas Dance Company (CDC), founded in 1994, holds a unique place in Ohio's professional dance community. Unique in its strong Hungarian heritage, CDC offers outstanding preparation for both professional and nonprofessional dancers. The goal of CDC's Youth Ensemble is to provide training for young dancers in traditional and contemporary works stemming from Hungarian heritage. The school of CDC, the Movement Arts Center (MAC), in addition to serving as the home for Ohio Conservatory of Dance, offers instruction in several dance disciplines to area residents. The Center combines classical training and contemporary movement disciplines with emphasis on performance skills and musicality to creative expressive, intuitive, and proficient performers and individuals.



Csardas represented at International Showcase

of Performing Arts for Young People (IPAY)

Csardas Dance Company will be a part of this prestigious international conference as it comes to Cleveland for the first time since 1987. From Jan. 19-22 Playhouse Square will host performers, exhibitors and presenters from around the world! International Performing Arts for Youth is an international membership organization which exists to provide leadership and educational opportunities to the field of international performing arts for young people. The organization serves, advances, informs and raises the profile of the field. IPAY will accomplish its mission through international networks, consortia and an annual conference which promotes the creation and presentation and exchange of the highest quality performing arts for young people.

T á n c h á z (Hungarian Dance House)!

Come out to the Movement Arts Center on Sunday, February 20, 2005 at 6pm for a Táncház (Hungarian Dance House)! Our very own Csardas Youth Ensemble will perform both traditional and modern Hungarian dances. They will also invite the audience to join in as they teach some simple Hungarian dances! Learn to SALSA at the MAC!

Professional dancer, choreographer, and instructor, Susana Evert, co-founder of the Tom and Susana Evert Dance Theatre, will lead beginners in the art of this fiery Latin dance!

Susana specializes in different styles and techniques, among these are the Latin-American Rhythms and the influence of these is visible in her original work. She has given many workshops in Latin-American dance styles and residencies in many schools and camps for children and adults and many levels of understanding. Susana was awarded a fellowship of excellence in choreography from the Ohio Arts Council in 1999.

Executive Director Richard Graber Accepted as

Member of International Dance Council

Richard Graber, Executive Director of Csardas Dance Company, was recently accepted for membership in the International Dance Council. The International Dance Council (CID) is the official umbrella organization for all forms of dance in all countries of the world. It is a non-profit non-governmental organization founded in 1973 within the UNESCO headquarters. It is a worldwide forum bringing together international, national and local organizations as well as individuals active in dance. CID represents the art of dance in general and advises the UNESCO, national and local government agencies, international organizations and institutions.



MAC Welcomes Sergei Fokin

and Ohio Conservatory of Dance

The Movement Arts Center is pleased to welcome Sergei Fokin and the Ohio Conservatory of Dance. Sergei is a former principle dancer with Gerbek Ballet, Eifman Ballet, Russian Theatre of Modern Ballet and the Kirov. Sergei received his training from the Leningrad Academic Choreographic School as well as St. Petersburg Rimsky - Korasakov State Conservatory. He has choreographed for skaters at the Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills, including world champion, Tara Lipinski. He has also choreographed numerous award-winning dances for regional and national level ballet competitions.

Csardas Dancer Poses for Artists

Csardas Youth Ensemble dancer, Courtney Gras, age 15, had the wonderful opportunity to pose for the Medina County Art League in November 2004 during one of their monthly meetings at the Grace-Drake Center in Medina. She wore a traditional Hungarian costume from the Csardas wardrobe.

Need Space For An Event?

The Movement Arts Center houses two dance studios, (35 x 35 studio/informal performance space with curtain, as well as a second studio 20 x 25). Both studios feature Stage Step II design sprung floors with premium sound systems. The center also offers three office cubicles and a spacious lobby area which doubles as an audience or reception space.
Meetings and/or rehearsals may be held any day during regular business hours. Please inquire about available times for parties and receptions. The entire Movement Arts Center building is available for large events. It can accommodate up to 150 guests.
