Movement Arts Center Welcomes Ohio Conservatory of Dance

The Movement Arts Center, (MAC) will be the home of the official school of the Ohio Conservatory of Dance under the artistic direction of Sergei Fokin. The MAC is a nonprofit dance facility located in Medina, Ohio and dedicated to presenting quality dance educational programs and opportunities within an open-studio environment. The "one of a kind" studio/informal performance space is currently utilized for a variety of dance courses in addition to being the home to the Csárdás Dance Company.

Executive Director of the MAC and Csárdás Dance Company, Richard Graber, welcomes the partnership and feels collaborations are essential in today's climate where an increased number of organizations are working together in order to share resources. Fokin, a native of Russia and former dancer with the Kirov Theatre also welcomes the opportunity and has already invited students of the Movement Arts Center and members of the Csárdás Youth Ensemble to perform in his upcoming productions. He has also inquired about using some of the 13 sets of Csárdás Dance Company costumes for productions.

Fokin assumed role of Artistic Director earlier this year of the six-year-old organization originally founded in Medina by Inna Stabrova and later moved to the greater Akron area. Fokin?s extensive teaching and choreography credits include Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, University of Delaware, Wayne State University in Michigan, Juliannas, Detroit Skating Club, Musical Jewish Theatre as well as coaching/choreographing for such notables as Tara Lipinski, Yuka Sato and most recently gold medalist Sasha Cohen.

The comprehensive dance training programs at the Movement Arts Center through its affiliates offers outstanding preparation for dancers for both professional and nonprofessional intent. The center combines classical training and contemporary movement disciplines, with emphasis on performance skills and musicality to create expressive, intuitive and proficient performers.

The MAC boasts 4,800 square feet of rehearsal as well as performance space with two studio spaces making it the largest and most unique studio of it?s kind in the area. The facility is also available for rent for special events to arts and non-arts organizations alike.
